The Quick Change

Well, hello there.  Remember me?

Yeah, I’m the one who foolishly thought that life after baby would magically course correct back into structured days of productivity…

(insert snort of amusement here.)

Clearly, I was wrong.

(Especially considering that any free time I have, I spend sitting on the sofa, playing on my phone and drinking in the silence.)

This life change has taught me a few things about myself.

Two things specifically.

1.  I never imagined I could love a little person so much.  He gives me the chance to feel a lifetime of emotion in one day (hour?).  These include – but are not limited to – love, humility, humor, anger, frustration, delirium, amazement, wonder, joy, excitement, memory loss, humility… wait I already said that one… but ultimately LOVE.  I cannot describe it any other way.

2.  SLEEP TRUMPS EVERYTHING.  I now realize that the I have a completely different set of priorities when I am tired, and lately, I’m tired a lot.   I have accepted the fact that I am not going to be one of those amazing mommies who can balance multiple children, regular blogging, beautiful homes and DIY projects, (You know who you are.  Seriously.  Tell me the secret.), not to mention taking on new clients, and looking fabulous while doing it.  Right now it’s a good day if I can wash my hair.

So when my little “No-Nap-Joe” (yes, his name is Ellis, not Joe) decides that for the past two days he’s going to sleep from 8:30am to 11am, guess who’s jumping back into bed…this girl.  Of course there is a HUGE list of things I could/should be doing during this glorious 2 1/2 hour window, but shower be damned!  This girl is going back to sleep.

Okay, I promise I’m not using this post to rant (maybe just cry a little bit…).   Who could get too upset at this face?

In fact, I had some family come into town a few weeks ago.  And what better catalyst to get some quick design changes (those ones that have been looming on The List for, like, ever…) checked off, than guests coming into town?

It was also a great excuse to begin simplifying my design accessories to better accommodate a very active baby (…and that’s going to be a whole other post by itself).

Here’s a bit of what I did:

Quick pillow and consul table change.  You know I can’t ever make up my mind about throw pillows…

In the hallway, I ditched the chevron fabric overlay for something more simple, and restyled it  bit.  We’ll see how long it takes until I start tweaking again…

The living room is where I really needed to edit.  Little 10 month old hands are all over everything… So I simplified the coffee table (and even let the simplifying carry over to the buffet), and I’m really happy with the result.

Obviously these changes are small, and there are many more to come as I begin to adjust to life with this new little (mobile) person.

But that’s another subject for another day.

Now, it’s time for me to clean up the mess left in the wake of hurricane Ellis, and rescue the dog from being ridden like a pony….

I love my life.

The house looks fabulous and so does your “new” life! You’re transitioning along with the usual poise and grace you always employ. I would expect nothing less 🙂

  2. I like the changes around your house. I’m trying to line up a couple months of blog posts for when my little one comes. I’m in the same camp as you! Sleep > anything else.

  3. He’s sooo cute! And I’m so glad to see a post from you. 🙂 You make me want more gold accessories in my house… On another note, I can’t believe how much air B caught in the family pic. Seriously awesome.
