I’m Baaack…. (kind of.)

Happy New Year!

I will be completely honest… I really enjoyed my time off.  But now I’m welcoming 2014 with open arms, and have some exciting new changes coming to the blog (stay tuned…).

But for starters, I wanted to share with you the life changing event that took place last spring.

Hello, life changing event!

Back in April of 2013, my husband and I were blessed to welcome this beautiful baby boy into our lives.

It’s been a long road.  One paved with hopes, tears, heartache, poking and prodding of fertility treatments, the roller coaster that is the adoption process – but every tear shed, needle poked, hope dashed was worth it when we were able to hold this little guy the morning he was born.

Motherhood has been a transforming experience.  Of course my heart swelled with joy, but my eyes also hurt from the lack of sleep, my body ached from catching a blink of shut-eye on the sofa, and my emotions were raging.

Babies cry.

A lot.

I’ll be honest.  The maternal instincts took a while to kick in.  This little dude (…whom we’d prayed for, waited for, and wanted in every way imaginable) was turning my life upside-down.  I’d read every baby book (don’t judge) I could get my hands on, but this independent guy refused to fit into any of the standards they talked about.  Add to that bouts of reflux, refusal to nap during the day, and I was a mess.

Thankfully, we’ve been blessed with an amazing support system of family and friends (that’s ONE good thing about being the last of your “people” to have kids…), that helped to get us through the past few months.

Flash forward 8 months, and this little guy is the love of my life (with the exception of R, of course)!  I’m still trying to figure out the balance between work and a very (VERY) active 8 month old.

Oh, did I mention he thinks daytime sleep is for the weak?

Yeah.  We’re dealing with that.

So, with the new year I’m taking on a new outlook.  Design is going to have to sit in the backseat for a little bit while I’m drinking in every moment with this little guy.  I’m planning on easing back into blogging – opting for just a few posts each week.  As I begin to balance life and mommy hood (still getting the hang of that one…), I’m planning on getting back to posting every weekday.

We’ll see how that goes…

In the mean time, I’ll be back to posting on a (semi) regular basis next week.  Lots of design to talk about!

  2. Congrats!!! And what a beautiful family photo! Thanks for sharing with us.
As for the lack of sleep : UGH, I feel for you. My first son was just like yours… I remember thinking “aren’t babies supposed to sleep?!?!” but nope, not him! LOL. Then when he was about 9 months old I got pregnant with baby #2 and well, let’s just say the next couple of years were a pretty much a blurr… LOL!! You will get to sleep-in eventually – when he’s a teenager, until then hang in there! 🙂
Meanwhile enjoy your new little family and the wonders (and challenges) of being a mom -don’t worry about your fans, we will keep reading whenever you get a chance to post!
Take care and all the best!
(p.s. Happy New Year to you too).

Rick and Tiina, words can not express the happiness I feel!! I have had the honor and pleasure of meeting and holding sweet Ellis. He is so beautiful (handsome) and is so lucky to have such loving parents. Children are complete blessings and , yes it is the hardest most rewarding job to be a parent. God bless the Carson family!!
