I have a serious problem.

I cannot seem to fight the urge to spray paint random objects in my house gold.

I blame Stephanie from Surrounded by Pretty for creating this monster.

She was the inspiration behind this DIY project I did last week.

Since then, it’s been a mad quest for objects to update with a little… sparkle and shine.

Seriously.  Put the spray paint down, and walk away slowly…

Yesterday’s victim lucky object was an old lamp that’s been sitting on my desk for ages.  I’ve been wanting to change it out for quite a while now.  You might remember the numerous blog posts about what I’d like to replace it with, and, yup… I still haven’t done a thing…Sigh.  So, I thought, why not a fresh coat of paint?

I decided to go for it and got everything prepped and ready – cleaning off any dust and/or dirt and using painters tape to cover the top bracket and cord.

Then I got to spraying… (and yes, I added a finishing coat of paint to the tables, too…)

…but beware the “overzealous spray”!  Too close and too much at once = pooling.  The trick is to be patient…

(easier said than done when you love gold….)

And the finished product:

I LOVE how it turned out, but honestly, I wasn’t super excited about it on the desk.  So I decided to search out some other spots for it.

I tried it out in my dining room, swapping the white shade for a black one…

I’m SO loving it with a black shade.

Not completely convinced this will be it’s permanent home…  I’m still fiddling with it.  I have a few other spots to try out.

To Be Continued…

  1. Gaaahhh I can’t read the whole post yet (blocked at work) but just the little snippet I see I cannot agree more. I’m commenting before reading because I am DYING over that lamp…. it makes me want to spray paint mine or to my white rose chandy. Shoot. It was ‘spensive…. maybe I do it to a cheapie.

    • I know, I’m scouring my house for inexpensive objects to dowse in gold spray paint, too. I’m thinking a bunch of old terra-cotta pots that I have in the shed… hmmm… you’ve definitely created a monster! Haha!

  2. I am so with you – I keep painting things gold around here, too. What color spraypaint is that? The gold I bought isn’t quite yellowy-gold enough so I’ve found myself using some craft paint that I like better. Your lamp looks so great!

    • Thanks!!! I used the Rust-Oleum gold
Spray paint. It’s the best one I’ve tried – and I feel like I’ve tried them all! I might have to try craft paint now, too. 😉
