Adding Something Special…
Or in other words…
Updating my teeny, tiny, guest bathroom.
I’ve been looking for inspiration, and would love the chance to do something special and unique – you know… put the POW in Powder Room (even though it has a tub, it’s literally the size of a powder room).
But here’s the catch.
I don’t think we want to spend the money to make this room all it could be.
It’s a secondary bathroom, and honestly, I don’t think we’re going to be in this house for too many more years. So, that’s my design challenge. Budget friendly, but unique and style centered. Oh, and most definitely functional.
Here’s what I’m working with…
Okay, so it’s a blank slate…
Especially with the orangish, builder-grade tile. (Why would I ever want to change that? It’s lovely, right?)
Have you ever had a tile where you start to see crazy patterns in the imprint?
I see creepy faces.
So, here’s what I’m looking at as inspiration:
The space is really small, so I’m thinking about an open leg sink basin
(going to have to sell this idea to R, because open leg = less storage / exposed storage. My practical hubby isn’t a fan.
Also, majorly crushing on this wallpaper and bold color accent. Could be really fun.
Okay, I’m a fan of this idea, too. The fuller length mirror is great for visually expanding the space.
Plus, being a secondary bathroom means I won’t be spending all my time wiping it down.
I’m absolutely lusting after this wallpaper. I also love the stone slab behind the sink.
Don’t know if my layout would have the same impact, but…
And here’s a completely different approach.
High impact black paint for wainscot with a traditional rug (love that rug) and pedestal sink. Hmm…
As for the shower, I know that I want to keep the tile simple and timeless (…and budget friendly).
My first thought is a classic subway tile in either a brick or straight set. Then having the tile run around the space as a wainscot.
But… I could opt for marble subway tile… It’s so pretty.
R would love the cost of that (…yes, that’s sarcasm).
I could opt for marble mosaic. Love the niche.
The main problem is that we want to keep the tub (We already got rid of the other one…), so that limits the “shower” design a little bit.
Although I’d love to do this:
I’ll probably end up with something more along these lines (around the walls):
Ooooh, maybe something like this would be the happy medium…
What do you think? Do you have a favorite?
We’re still in the very, very, beginning process here… We’ll see how this one evolves.
