My Dining Room Wish List

[Otherwise entitled “Convincing My Husband to Let Me Wallpaper the Dining Room]

This started out as a post about wallpaper.

It ended up being a post about the items I’m coveting for my sad little dining room…

The culprit?  Rose Cumming’s “Zebrine” wallpaper for Dessin Fournir.  I’m totally smitten (which seems to happen quite often lately, right?).

From there, the whole concept just steamrolled.

So today, you get to be a part of the design development process while I hash out the design for my dining room.

This is just the preliminary idea (hence the term DRAFT 1 on the inspiration board) – by no means the finished product.

As I’m putting things together, the concept will evolve and take shape.

But I know that this amazing wallpaper will be the star of the design.  Now we just have to find the supporting cast.

Along with the wallpaper (in black), here’s what else I’m coveting for our little dining room:

I know I want a natural fiber rug, something with a great organic texture, but I’m still deciding on the color.

I love the knobby texture of this Pottery Barn rug, but it may be a little too light.  I may swap it for a richer, golden tone.

My dining chairs have this shape (but aren’t these West Elm chairs…)

I want to recover them in a fabric like this:

Okay, so I haven’t decided on a fabric yet.

Originally, I thought I wanted a navy blue, but I think I’m leaning toward the Peacock green.

This is how it’s coming along so far:

There are still plenty of details to hammer out, but hey, that’s the design process.

Definitely a “to be continued”.

Now I just have to convince R to let me wallpaper the dining room….

  1. I love it all! I wish I could afford a room like that. I’ve been coveting that table for a long time, just not the price tag. Everything’s gorgeous xo K

    • Thanks, Kristin! It’ll probably be a “piece by piece” project. Slow and steady, right?

  2. I love it all! I know I say that a lot but I think we have really similar tastes 😛 I LOVE that table and will be getting one for our next place. And of course, I love all things Schumacher so can’t go wrong there. I’m not a big fan of focal walls but I think in this instance one wallpapered wall could work. It’d be cheaper and then maybe you could get buy-in from the hubs?

    • I think you’re totally right. Great minds think alike, right? I totally agree with you about the accent wall, too. Actually the layout of my house makes the dining room a transitional space with only two real walls. I’ve already picked the wall I want to use as the accent. Now I just have to convince the hubby! Oh, and the Saarinen table – it WILL be mine someday (soon, hopefully)!
