Squeals, Twinkle Lights, and Pink Lanterns…
Otherwise known as “What I did this weekend”…
Do you remember your sweet 16th birthday. I was trying to, but for the life of me, I can’t. Seriously. How terrible is that?!
I think it was great, and fun, and everything a 16th birthday should be, but I just can’t remember any of the details. I can remember everything about my 17t birthday, though… weird.
Anyway, the reason that I’m trying to dig up memories of many, many, many (okay, many) years past, is because last weekend I helped a dear friend of mine plan and decorate a surprise 16th birthday party for her daughter. It was a lot of fun.
Usually party planning/decorating fall within the category of “I like it in theory, but lose interest in the execution” (Sad, but true. Sigh.). Not this time, though.
This time, I hit the ground running with tons of ideas swirling around in my head. Being that we only had a limited amount of time with which to set up and get things together, there was most definitely a cap on the amount of decorations we could use.
Of course, I hit Pinterest for some inspiration.
The result was a barrage of pink and purple Chinese lanterns, twinkle lights, balloons and a great surprise.
Here’s what I came up with:
This was my initial Pinsperation.
Since we were needing to decorate in a hurry, I thought it would be something we could make in advance and then install on each corner of the outside patio.
Other than being up to my eyeballs in Chinese lanterns of various colors and sizes, it was…
Here’s how it turned out:
I also pulled some Pinsperation from this:
Here are the girls waiting for my friend’s daughter to arrive.
What a cute bunch! My friend’s daughter was genuinely surprised.
Although seeing these teenagers hammered home the reality that I am NOT young anymore, it was fun to laugh with my friend and our husband as we reminisced about high school and being that age where the world is an open book.
Fun to reminisce…
But let’s be honest, now…
SO happy NOT to be a teenager anymore.
**I also want to give a special thanks to Julie from Julie Loves Home, for nominating me for the LEIBSTER blog award! More on that to come this week.
Thank you, Julie!
