Colors I’m Loving – Moody Blues
No, not the band…
I’m talking about one of my favorite design trends – MIXING BLUES (or any color in different shades). It’s a new take on the old monochromatic color scheme. Layering different shades of the same color to create an effortlessly chic mix of light and dark.
I love the idea of harmonizing a deep, inky navy with a pop of cobalt and a splash of light turquoise – reminiscent of tranquil ocean waves, and soothing breezes (…okay, maybe I took that one a little too far…)
It’s easy to layer color just as you would pattern or texture. Think in terms of visual balance. Choose one color to be the primary focal color – the one that grounds the visual space (and the one you use the most of!).
Then layer the accent colors accordingly. A secondary color will be used in smaller amounts, or on smaller objects – lighting, accent furniture, artwork…. Be sure to find a few different spots around your room to incorporate the last accent color as a finishing touch.
Here’s some inspiration:
You COULD always work the moody blues in a more literal sense – from light to dark.
Like these stairs.
….the ones that I’m majorly crushing on right now.
What do you think of this new take on the monochromatic color scheme?
