The Impulse Buy
Okay, I admit it.
I’m an impulse buyer (hangs head in shame)…
As a designer, it’s so important to have a game plan – a conceptual direction to move towards with key pieces that create just the right feel. Impulse buys can either become an element of unexpected brilliance, or completely sabotage a interior scheme.
I’m very direct when conveying this concept to clients.
When it comes to my own home, however, I can’t seem to follow my own advice.
I’d like to say that every impulse buy has been one brilliance, but honestly, that’s not always the case (hangs head in shame, again).
It’s the strangest thing. Whether on a ‘routine’ trip to Target or a stroll through the flea market, unique and interesting objects seem to call out to me and lure me into taking them home.
Such was the case yesterday when I decided to take a peek inside my local YWCA reDesign shop.
Let me preface this by saying that I’ve been wanting a new coffee table for a while now. I had been hoping to find a vintage piece with glass and brass / gold tones, but hadn’t found anything that really spoke to me.
Flash forward to Monday, as I’m walking through the reDesign shop… talking on the phone (yes, I was THAT person – so annoying, I know), when I came to the back of the store and there it was…. for only $75!!!!!
I bought it on the spot!
What do you think?
I pick it up today, and cannot WAIT to see it in the living room. I’m so convinced that this impulse buy is one of such brilliance, that I’m feeling inspired to completely restyle my living room!
I just have to convince my husband…
How about you? Are you an impulse buyer?
