It’s funny when the saying “what’s old is new again” becomes a reality.

For the first time in my life, I’m beginning to see the trends I originally wore in high school cycle back around and find favor with a younger generation.  I’ll be honest, it’s freaking me out a little bit.

Not only are we seeing the comeback of flannel shirts, matte lips, and combat boots, but also the return of scarlet’s moody cousin, OXBLOOD.  (Is it ironic that, in high school, my closet included multiple pairs of Doc Martins, my favorite of which happened to be the color oxblood?)

It dominated the fall runways, and now we’re beginning to see the color trickle into home decor as the fall palette progresses towards more somber hues.  But, I like how this trend is being reinterpreted for 2012-13.  We’re trading in the dated coupling of oxblood and hunter green for a fresher take with pairings of navy, gray, and even pink!

I suppose I feel a bit nostalgic about it all, and I know that this won’t be the last time I think to myself, “Wow, that’s back in style? I totally wore that the first time around!  I feel really old.”

I guess I just need to find a way to wrap my brain around the whole idea, and then get over it.

Trends will always continue to cycle around.  That is inevitable.

But I should have saved my Doc Martins…

  1. Yeah, I don’t know if I can get on board with this one…It reminds me of my childhood home. I like it paired with pink though 🙂 XO Kristin

    • I completely agree! I like some of the new pairings, but still struggle with the whole concept.

  2. If we only had enough storage to hang onto our stuff until it becomes popular again!
