Shades of Gray
Okay, I’ll admit it.
Looking back, I find that my relationships with color in design have a shelf life of about two years.
Much like the “eternal bachelor” George Clooney, I quickly become involved (okay, obsessed) with a specific color, only to grow tired of it when it’s time to make a permanent commitment – generally about the two year mark.
I then opt to trade it in for a new, more exciting model…err, color.
I suppose I could compare my compulsion for change to Picasso’s “blue period”. For me, there was my chocolate brown period, then navy blue period, the bold tangerine period (shout out to Pantone’s 2012 color of the year, Tangerine Tango!), Kelly green, black, gold – you get the idea. Now I’m by no means comparing myself to Picasso, but I suppose it helps me justify my failure to commit.
All of that being said, I do seem to have one color that stands the test of time. A color that my heart always seems to come back to – the beautiful, ever classic GRAY.
Whether light and airy, deep and moody, an all over color tone, or a subtle accent- the smokey neutral always sings to me.
So in honor of my color “soul mate”, here are some great designs that use my favorite rainy-day hue!
What colors sing to you?
