The Dressing – Accessorizing the Bedside Table
By my definition, “The Dressing” is, you know, the pictures…books…accessories that finish out a space and tell your story.
Last night I was working on the dressing for the guest bedroom at the Mira Vista remodel. We’ve finished the groundwork (paint, flooring, lighting) of the project, and now we’ve moved into the accessorizing phase. I love this part of a project! A space’s personality really shines through in the details. The goal of this remodel has been to update the entire home from it’s early 90′s interior to a casual but elegant feel.
So, back to last night.
I was working on accessories for the guest bedroom. We decided to paint the walls white (Benjamin Moore’s White Dove OC-17) in order to bring a fresh, light feeling to the space. Our color palette is rooted in an array of soft blues and greens with a hint of yellow for fun. It creates a clean contrast when set against the dark tones of the existing furniture.
I’m looking to accessorize with classic pieces that will stand the test of time (not too trendy), but still have a modern edge – clean lines and simple shapes. I opted for this in order to add balance to the traditional style of the existing furniture.

This got me to thinking about some of the different ways to add the dressing to bedside tables. (…especially important seeing as I am going to finish my awesome Ikea hack any day now, right?)
Design is really only limited by your imagination.
Right now I’m personally channeling a very collected, Bohemian vibe (let the 2 year love affair begin!). I love layering pieces to add interest and reflect personality. …books, photographs, trinkets, I want them all there!
Here is some of the “dressing” inspiration I’ve been looking at for my own home:
I know, I know. It’s a bar cart. But I still love the way it’s accessorized!
Later this week I’ll be talking more about tips and tricks for accessorizing your home.
In the mean time, what inspires you? Do you prefer the collected look, or something simpler?

Definitely love the boho vibe, showing off collected treasures….not that it’s what my home looks like….maybe someday!
